Load Banks

Emergency 24-hour Rental / Service: (800) 969-3966

Load banks are devices designed to provide electrical loads for testing power sources such as generators and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS). Testing with a load bank allows for a standby power system to be exercised under load and to verify its reliability to perform in an emergency power situation. The load bank removes the risk to the critical facility load of total loss of power and loss of quality of power. Load banks are also used to reduce “wet stacking” problems in diesel engines of standby generating systems.

When a load bank is used, the artificial load it provides brings the generating system up to an acceptable operating temperature. Bringing a diesel engine up to operating temperature eliminates excessive fuel build up or unburned fuel deposits building up in the engine. This is known as “wet stacking” and occurs primarily when diesel engines are run at low or unloaded conditions. The load bank also checks the engines ability to provide the required horsepower over time, frequency stability, and the alternators ability to provide the required voltage stability.

Reasons to load bank test:

  • A requirement for healthcare facilities
  • Weekly exercising introduces no load to the generator system
  • Confirms proper engine performance under load
  • Assures that your standby power will be ready when needed

Cummins Bridgeway, LLC has a load bank to meet your requirements, along with all the technical support you would need to perform the load bank test.  We can load bank test generator sets from 5KW – 2000KW.  All our load bank tests are performed by one of our factory trained technicians.  Load bank tests can be performed during normal business hours or after hours to meet the customer’s needs.
